#BAMBI - MASCULINE CHRISTMAS CARD

This week I decided to make a masculine Christmas card for you all,

I’m not sure about everyone else but I really struggle to make masculine cards.

 

So to make it easier on myself I used the same Wplus9 Stag Trio die set from last week, I decided to go with the stag head and a half wreath sort of look, keeping my card design clean and simple and just letting the stag element really stand out and do all the work for me.

 

I started off again by using my We R Memory Keepers Trim & Score Board to trim down my favourite cardstock, making an A2 top folding card out of Trophee Board White Linen 240 GSM Paper.

 

I also decided to use the same sentiment as last week, mainly just because it my favourite at the moment but also because it’s not too fancy and helps keep my masculine card looking nice and “manly”.

 

I heat embossed the Hero Arts Holiday Tree sentiment using Rangers Super Fine Black Embossing Powder, I also heat embossed the same sentiment to the back flap of a C6 envelope, I just like doing this as I think it looks better than a plain old envelope, plus it then matches the card.

 

Moving onto the die cutting, I took the stag head  from the Stag Trio die set and die cut him out using Stampin’ Up! Gold Glimmer Paper, this paper is super sparkly and makes the stag head really pop off the card front.

 

Next I die cut a circle that wasn’t quite as big as my stag head using Mossy Meadow cardstock and Lil' Inker Designs Stitched Mat Circles, using the second smallest die to make the circle. Since I was keeping my card pretty simple with a lot of white area I wanted to add a bit more texture to the card so I dry embossed the circle using a small spotted embossing folder from Lifestyle Crafts.

 

To make the half wreath I used the Bird Builder Punch from Stampin’ Up!, punching out just the leaves / branches using Mossy Meadow cardstock, using my scissors I then trimmed down the branch ends so they weren’t so long.

 

To assemble the stag element before placing it onto my card I first ran a bit of Tombow Removable Adhesive Tape to the back of the die cut circle, I then placed my leaves out and very carefully pressed them in place, because this adhesive allows for removal and repositioning I then placed a bit of tape over the ends just so they didn’t move.

 

With the leaves firmly in place I then used my bone folder and curled up the ends of the leaves, this just gave them some more texture and also made them look like they weren’t just sitting there flat against the card.

 

I then used Tombow Mono Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the circle to the card front, lastly I popped the stag head up on Small Foam Dots and placed him neatly in the centre of the circle.

#BAMBI - DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW

 

Hello, Happy Wednesday !

So this week I have another Christmas card using the Falling Snow Stencil from Simon Says Stamp,

It’s fast becoming one of my favourite Stencils in my collection and I can already tell a lot of my cards this Christmas are going to feature snow on them.

 

I’m also going to be using another of my Christmas favorites this year, which is the totally awesome Wplus9 Stag Trio die set, it’s an older die set but has so many uses, not just for Christmas cards, I had been trying to get this die set since last Christmas and finally got my hands on a set a month back as they are forever out of stock, seems they are a favourite for many.

 

I myself love the Stag Trio die set and have so many other ideas on how I want to use it but I mainly brought this die set thinking purely of my sister as she loves anything stag deco / stag related, so I thought it would make the perfect Christmas card for her.

 

So now on to the card details…

 

I started off by using my We R Memory Keepers Trim & Score Board to trim down some cardstock,

making an A2 top folding card out of Trophee Board White Linen 240 GSM Paper.

 

I then heat embossed my sentiment from Hero Arts Holiday Tree using Rangers Super Fine Black Embossing Powder, I then took the Simon Says Stamp Falling Snow Stencil and some Wendy Vecchi Studio 490 White Embossing Paste and used this to cover my card front, once I had cleaned my palette knife and stencil I then set my card aside to dry.

 

While I was waiting for the embossing paste to dry I moved on to the die cutting,

Taking the largest stag in the Stag Trio die set, I die cut him out of some Gold Glimmer Paper, I also die cut two small banners using the Stampin’ Up!  Banners Framelits Die Set, one using some retired  Stampin' Up! Season Of Style Designer Series Paper Stack and the other using some retired My Mind's Eye Time For Tea Designer Paper.

 

And because I couldn't resist adding a bit more sparkle to my design I had to add a little sparkly gold star to the banners using Gold Glimmer Paper, again using the star punch from the Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack.

 

By this time the embossing paste was well and truly dry so I could start assembling the card,

I popped the stag up on Small Foam Dots and placed him slightly over the sentiment, I then used Mini Glue Dots to adhere the two banners to the top left hand corner, layering them slightly over top of each other; I then adhered the star down with another Mini Glue Dot , placing the star on top of the two banners, super easy to make!

WRITERS NOTES:

Ok so I’m sure some of you are asking why #BAMBI - DASHING THROUGH THE SNOW?

Well to start off with when I was making this card I thinking of that adorable scene in Bambi where it’s his first winter and he’s jumping around in the snow with Thumper, and then because it kind of looks like my stag is jumping / dashing through the snow - this then made me start singing, Dashing through the snow, in a one horse open sleigh, over the fields we go, laughing all the way…… you know how the song goes.

Hello Everyone,

Sorry I never posted a card for you all last week, However, I hope to make it up to you with two posts today. Both of today’s posts share one card design with two slightly different finishes, So I made a total of eight cards this week which gave me two of each finished card design.

 

Both of these designs are A2 top folding cards made out of Trophee Board - White Linen 240 GSM Paper.

This paper is a nice weight for card bases and has a subtle embossed print on it that as the name suggest looks like linen or a very fine sanded wood texture.

 

With my card bases all done and set aside for later I moved on to my die cutting,

I used the pretty 2013 - 2015 In Colour cardstock Strawberry Slush and die cut four large Stitched Circles from Lil' Inker Designs, taking  a smaller circle from the same Stitched Circle set I die cut some light pink cardstock from American Crafts - Dear Lizzy Lucky Charm 6 x 6 Paper Pad.

Next I die cut my Hello sentiment from LID’s sixteen times using Basic Black cardstock - yes you read that right, I wanted the same look from my card Golden Thanks with the Hello sentiment raised up without been to bulky, so like I was saying I die cut the word Hello sixteen times which gave me four for each card of the two card designs.

Because I hadn’t had enough of die cutting I then die cut four feathers using Wplus9 Fanciful Feathers Designer Dies out of We R Memory Keepers - Love Notes 6 x 6 Paper Pad in some printed pink cardstock and lastly I took some Gold Glimmer Paper and die cut four more feathers.

 

Now I was just left with the easy part which was stamping the rest of my sentiment,

I used the Wplus9 Fanciful Feathers Stamp Set that coordinates with the feather dies and took the neat word Friend from the stamp set and stamped this to the bottom right hand side of all four cards using the retired Strawberry Slush Classic Stampin' Ink Pad.

 

For the first two of these cards I keep my card design minimal with a lot of white area showing, I wanteda clean, crisp yet pretty end result, with the other two I added some little falling feathers from the Wplus9 Fanciful Feathers Stamp Set and heat embossed these in Rangers Super Fine Gold Embossing Powder down the left hand side, this just added a bit more of an elegant touch and made it a little more flashier than the other two cards.

I also added the gold heat embossed falling feathers down the left hand side to the front of two Whisper White C6 Envelopes, on the other two I took a single feather stamp from the same set and heat embossed a gold feather to the back flap of the envelopes.
